SOUTH HADLEY          Alfred George Moreau 90, passed peacefully from this life into eternal life on September 30, 2026.

He was born on March 7, 1936 in Springfield MA to Lydia (Berard) and Joseph William Moreau.

Alfred was educated in Chicopee schools before enlisting in the United States Navy serving as a Ships Serviceman Seaman from 1954-1958 first aboard the USS Des Moines and then aboard the USS Macon. He was a proud Veteran and proud to have served his country.

He was a member of the Tiger A.C. club, Moose Lodge 1849, the American Legion Post 275 and Knights of Columbus Council 69.

Alfred was a very independent, strong, funny, honest and a hardworking man who worked at Savage Arms and Moore Drop Forge before retiring. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves behind a daughter Debra Carriveau (Rich), his best friend and brother Joseph Moreau Jr. (Irene). He also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who knew him and loved him as ‘Uncle George’.  He also leaves behind a life long friend and love Terri Grimshaw and her family.

He was predeceased by his parents, six brothers and three sisters, his daughter Donna Lagasse and ex-wife, Dorothy Matuszczak.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, 10/08/2026 at Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home, 69 East St Chicopee from 9 – 10 AM, with burial to follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
