Barbara Ann Aubrey, known lovingly to her family as “Baci,” passed away on April 3, 2026, Good Friday, at the age of 89. Born on February 28, 1937, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Barbara lived her early childhood years in Chicopee before moving and spending the rest of her life in Springfield.
Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband, Raymond G. Aubrey, who preceded her in death. The two shared 59 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together rooted in love, loyalty, and laughter. Together they raised two children who meant the world to her, and she took immense pride in watching her family grow. She was also predeceased by the grandparents who raised her Mary and Karol Korytko.
For 25 years, Barbara worked in the sterilization department at Mercy Medical Center, where she was known as a dedicated and reliable member of the team. She took her work seriously and formed lasting friendships with her colleagues over the years. Some of whom she continued to meet with every couple of months for lunch.
Baci loved to cook and nothing was off limits; she could make anything and did most of her cooking from memory. She was very proud of her Polish heritage often cooking Polish dishes she learned from her Baci many years ago while listening to her favorite polka music.
Barbara was an avid Red Sox fan who never missed a chance to yell at her TV while watching them. She had a real passion for playing cards, especially pitch, an always with “a couple bucks” on the line. More than anything, though, Barbara’s greatest joy was her granddaughters. Whether it was attending their events, celebrating their accomplishments, or simply spending time together, she was their biggest fan and most enthusiastic supporter.
Barbara is survived by her son, Anthony Aubrey of Springfield; her daughter and best friend, Renee Stachowicz and her husband Michael; and her beloved granddaughters, her angels, Aubrey and Abigail all of Wilbraham. She also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews many of whom would stop in to visit with her when they were in the area.
Barbara’s deep and abiding Catholic faith was the foundation of everything she did. It guided her through life’s challenges, strengthened her in times of loss, and filled her days with grace and gratitude. She now rests peacefully in the arms of the Lord she served so faithfully, reunited with her beloved Raymond.
The family welcomes all who knew and loved Barbara to celebrate her life. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd., Springfield at 10:30am. Burial will be in St Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Barbara’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, c/o Take and Eat Program.
