Barbara A. (Dort) Gaouette, 76, of Chicopee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Springfield on November 26, 1943 to Walter and Cecilia (Cashin) Dort. Barbara was a member of Word of Grace Church in Westfield. She is survived by her husband, Alan Gaouette of 58 years, three daughters, Cheryl Ciaschini and her husband, John of West Springfield, Donna Roy and her husband, Guy of Chicopee and Barbara Grace Gaunya and her husband, Peter of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Adam Roy, Joshua Roy, Emily Ciaschini and David Ciaschini, a nephew Richard Dort and a niece Raquelle Briant. She is predeceased by her brother, Richard D. Dort. Barbara made every holiday, birthday and anniversary special for her family and loved spending time with all of them. She is remembered for her faith in God and love of her church family. She enjoyed the ocean which she said awakened all of her senses. Barbara loved visiting Nova Scotia, the birthplace of both of her parents. She was a great encourager of people, loved researching her family genealogy and doing crossword puzzles. Although Barbara will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now dancing on streets of gold! A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children.
