Barbara J. (Jasnocha) Surprenant, 90, of Russell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Genesis Healthcare Center in Westfield surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on June 12, 1931 in Ware, MA to the late Joseph and Sophie (Sydla) Jasnocha. Born in Ware, she grew up in Enfield MA, then moved to Amherst when the town of Enfield was deconstructed for the Quabbin Reservoir. Once married she and her husband George raised their family in Chicopee. She attended Amherst High School and then on to Northampton Commercial College. She was employed by Warren Pumps for 8 years and after staying home to raise her family, returned to work at Mercy Medical Center until her retirement. Barbara belonged to The Ladies of St Ann, The Over Sixty Club, St George’s Women’s Club and Senior Class at Baystate Medical. Barbara was a communicant of the former St. George’s Church in Chicopee and presently, Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. She loved to bake and all who knew her were graced with her amazing desserts. Besides her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Louis “George” Surprenant and her sister, Dorothy Bish, her brother-in-law, Jean Charles Surprenant and his wife Germaine and a nephew, Jeffrey Bish. She is survived by a son, Paul Surprenant and his wife, Chrysla of Wilbraham, a daughter, Patricia Scuderi and her husband, Carmelo of Russell and a son, Robert Surprenant and his wife, Marsha of Orlando, FL; three grandsons, Anthony and Michael Scuderi and Stephen Surprenant, her brother-in-law William Bish, two nieces, Susan Norman and Nancy Fontes and many loving cousins. Barbara’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home, 69 East St. in Chicopee at 10 am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Mary, Mother of Hope Church on Page Blvd. in Springfield. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1pm. Calling hours are on Monday from 4 to 7 pm.
