CHICOPEE     Chong Sun (Chong) Lawrence, 91, of Chicopee, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Sixteen Acres Healthcare Center in Springfield. She was born on December 14, 1934 in Korea and was the daughter of the late Man Yong Chong and Myong Ye (Kim) Chong. Chong moved to the United States in the late 1960s where she worked hard to build a beautiful life. She retired from the A.G. Spalding company in Chicopee after working as a custom golf ball inspector for more than 25 years.
Although she didn’t have children of her own, she selflessly played a significant role in raising her great-nieces. Chong is survived by her great-niece, Jennifer (Sean) Stevens and her son, Sebastian; great-nieces Sharon Kim and Shannon Kim; great-nephew Brandon Kim; her brother, Yang Hwa Chong (the late Sok Sun) and his children, Sue Kim and Yon Chong; her brother, Kon Hwa Chong (Chong Sun) and his children, Un Mi Chong and Angela (Joon Hyuk) Chong and her son, Elliot; and her sisters, Chong Boon Chong and Chong Sook Chong of South Korea. Chong is predeceased by her beloved canine companion of 19 years, Wiggles.
Chong will be lovingly remembered for her fierce independence, strong work ethic, deeply caring nature, and ability to make friends wherever she went. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and preparing them delicious meals. She was so proud of the life she built and the lives of others she helped shape.
Calling hours are on Friday, March 20th at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee from 4 to 6 pm with a service at 5:30 pm. A private burial service for family will take place on Saturday, March 21st at Fairview Cemetery in Chicopee at 11 am.
