Constance “Connie” “Elaine” (Simard) Swierk, 99, a lifelong resident of Chicopee Falls, passed away on January 27, 2019, just four months shy of her 100th birthday on May 20th. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Swierk and beloved mother of the late Gerald Swierk. She was cherished by her son, Alan D. Swierk (Marilyn) of Oldsmar, FL and her daughter, Marcia Podgurski (Richard) of Springfield, MA, who were devoted to their mother. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Jason, Pamela, Eric and Jeremy. Her great grandchildren Nikolas, Isabel, Brooke, Kyle, Peyton, Nina, Jackson, Andie and Katelyn will also miss her deeply. Connie or “Elaine”, a parishioner of the former St. George’s Catholic Church, was a deeply religious woman. She enjoyed spending time in Florida, where she had been a part time resident for many years after her retirement from Renn Electronics. She had also been employed at the former F. W. Sickles Corp. Elaine was an amazing and brave person who lived on her own until a serious fire in October destroyed her home. Her family and friends will remember her friendly, energetic and spirited personality and her caring ways with others. Connie’s funeral will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls at 9:30 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd. in Springfield at 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends can visit at the funeral home on Friday morning from 8:30 to 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 59 Bobola Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd., Springfield, MA 01104.
