Edward C. Rys, 95, formerly of Chicopee, passed away at the Holyoke Veterans Home on Saturday, October 12, 2024. He was born on October 20, 1928 in Chicopee and was the son of the late Stanley M. Rys and Sophie (Swiatlowski) Rys. Edward was an Air Force veteran serving during the Cold War. He was a very religious man. Edward was a tool crib attendant at various machine shops. Besides his parents, Edward is predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Evelyn Kusnierz and his niece, Mrs. Frances Asta-Ferrero. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Walter and his wife Nancy, Max, Jr. and his wife Susan, Stanley and his wife Marilyn, Mary and Anna Kusnierz, Philomena Belmer and her husband William, also Mrs. Frances Asta-Ferrero’s husband, Charles Asta-Ferrero and many great nieces and nephews. Ed’s family would like to thank the staff at the Holyoke Veterans Home for many years of taking care of him. A visitation hour will be held on Thursday, October 17th at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee from 8 to 9 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus at 9:30 am. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam at 11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
