Edward Piotr Cwieka, 96, formerly of Chicopee, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, surrounded by his family.   He was born on September 18, 1926, in Trzciana/Mielec, Poland.  “Edziu,” the son of Jan and Jozefa. After serving proudly in the Polish Navy on the Baltic Sea, returned to his hometown of Mielec and acquired the skills as a machinist working in the airplane factory in Mielec until 1965. He and his young family immigrated to the US, and he continued in this career path until his 1991 retirement from Peerless Tool, Enfield, CT.  His post-retirement employment path of 10 years was with Carr Property Management, Inc., of East Longmeadow, MA working alongside the love of his life, Wladyslawa “Gladys” (Kruzel) whom he married in 1956.  Side by side, they worked as a dynamic duo balancing work, endless energy in support of family, their grandchildren, their continued devotion to their faith and above all, the companionship and dedication to each other until Gladys’ death in 2011. Thereafter, Edziu continued to carry on their love of family and finally retired to pursue his passion for gardening. Edziu is survived by his three sons: Adam J. Cwieka and his wife, Wieslawa of Chicopee, Peter J. Cwieka and his companion, Amy Szczygiel, Robert P. Cwieka and his wife, Michele; a daughter Ewa (Cwieka) O’Malley and her husband Scott Milas, and seven grandchildren: Matthew Cwieka and his wife Katelin, Jeremy Cwieka, Mark O’Malley and his wife Lindsay, Andrew O’Malley and his wife Betsy, Brian O’Malley, Jacob Cwieka and Sara Cwieka, and two great-grandchildren, Lillian Marie and Bennan Edward O’Malley.  He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Bridget Eve O’Malley, his brothers in law, Casimir Kruzel and George Dziurzynski.  He is survived by his sisters in law, Jessica Dziurzynski and Ania Kruzel, his niece Cecilia Soja and her husband Julek, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews both in the US and in Poland.  Calling hours are Friday, March 10, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm at Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home at 69 East St., Chicopee.  A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 11th 10:30 am at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, 566 Front St., Chicopee. Internment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  Polish Center of Discovery and Learning Center, 33 South St., Chicopee, MA 01013 or to the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus.
