1924 – 2022

SPRINGFIELD Edward Ralph Rudek, 98, formerly of Windemere St. in Springfield, passed away on January 22 while residing at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY.  Born on January 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Michael Rudek and Mary Kapinos Rudek. He was married for 51 years to Betty Jean Baldwin, who predeceased him in 2002.  He leaves behind two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Rudek and Warren Ferguson, MD of Shrewsbury, MA and Marcia and Stephen Pratt, MD of Niskayuna, NY, and three grandchildren, Michael Ferguson, Alex Pratt, and Amanda Pratt.  Also a niece, who was like a third daughter, Mary Anne Rudek (Bob Krzynowek) of Cary, NC.  Ed was the last surviving sibling of nine (Walter, John, Stanley, Joseph, Frank, Anne, Helen, Genevieve) and will be missed by many family members and friends, as well as his close friend Jean Pitoniak. Ed worked over 35 years for the former Rexnord, Inc. in Springfield, retiring in1985.

He was past Union President of Local 3326 at Rexnord and a member of the AFL/CIO.  He was also a Licensed Master Plumber. Ed was a proud Army Veteran of WWII, serving with George Patton’s Third Army in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received four Campaign ribbons and Service and Good Conduct medals. Ed was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and East Church Congregational.  He loved music and took organ lessons for many years at Falcetti’s Music. He enjoyed fishing and looked forward to the annual family trip to the lake.  He was a great dancer and a lot of fun, and he hosted the family gatherings well into his 90s.  He was a generous man with a big heart and he will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all the kind and compassionate people at Kingsway Arms for taking such good care of our Dad during his stay.  Special thanks to Rebecca, Carol and the CNA’s on B Unit. .A celebration of his life will be held at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St., in Chicopee Falls on Friday, January 28th from 2 to 4 pm.  A funeral home service will  be held at 3:30 pm.  Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at a later date.  Memorial contributions can be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 455 Island Pond Rd., Springfield, MA.
