Emily (“Mimi”) Stachowicz Mayotte, 92, died peacefully on February 14, 2021.
A lifelong resident of Chicopee, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Nosal) Stachowicz of Sandy Hill. The youngest of ten she is predeceased by her sisters Mary Baran, Helen Piela, Catherine (“Kitty”) Delmonte, Estelle (“Spin”)Veronesi and brothers John, Michael, Theodore, Morris (“Eppa”), and Frank. She is survived by her son Gary and wife Michele of Wilbraham, daughter Cathyann Gehlhausen and husband Jake of Chicopee, and daughter MaryEllen Mayotte of Chicopee; grandchildren Joshua Gehlhausen of Palmer, Kate Allain and husband Kyle of Leicester, Jacob Gehlhausen of Palmer, Jessica Mayotte of Chicago, Illinois, Jeffrey Mayotte of Biddeford, Maine, Christine Mayotte of Biddeford, Maine; and one great grandchild.
She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1946 and was active on the reunion committee. In 1948, Emily married her beloved husband of 65 years, Robert Mayotte (deceased).
She was employed by New England Telephone in Springfield for 30 years retiring in 1984.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and she and her husband were actively involved with the Elks Lodge. They danced away many nights together among their large circle of friends.
She relished spending time with friends and family especially her grandchildren. She looked forward to weekly Sunday dinners which always included raucous card games.
More recently, Emily was a resident of Heritage Woods in Agawam where she delighted in the many activities.
Emily was known as an extremely generous, kind, fun-loving person, with a sparkling personality; a standout in any crowd who possessed a hearty and infectious laugh. She was the life of the party and she made every gathering and holiday extra special for all. She was, by any measure, a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt , grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She put a smile on the face of all who came in contact with her and changed the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, February 18 from 4-6pm at Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home, 69 East Street, Chicopee. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 19. at 9am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony Street, Chicopee. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee.
