Helen Forman, age 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the Memory Care unit of MapleWood at Brewster in the town of Brewster, Massachusetts. She was one month away from her 100th birthday. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Catherine Lacus, brother Michael Lacus and step brothers George and Adolph Lacus, as well as her stepmother Stella (Gawron) Lacus – all from Chicopee MA. She was also predeceased by her husbands Walter Dziedzic and Joseph Forman of Northampton MA. Helen attended St. Stanislaus School and later was employed as a seamstress at the historic Cabotville Mill in Chicopee MA. In 1941 Helen married Walter Dziedzic of Chicopee MA. They settled on Morgan Road, West Springfield MA where they raised their two daughters Judy and Kathy. They founded and ran the Springfield Sewing Machine Company in Springfield MA until Walter’s death in 1955, and were upstanding members of Holy Family Church in Holyoke, MA. In 1963, Helen married Joseph Forman. Residing on Rockland Drive in West Springfield MA, they attended the St. Thomas Church. In addition to traveling near and far for frequent visits with their families, Helen and Joe shared an interest in gardening, golfing, dancing, fishing and tempting lady luck at the races. After her retirement as a long term employee at Acme Chain Company in Holyoke MA, Helen pursued additional interests in oil painting and became an active member of the Red Hat Club as well as a member of the East Mountain Golf Club. In 2000 she moved to King’s Way Yarmouth Port MA where she continued to be an avid golfer and accomplished artist. Family and friends were Helen’s passion. She was devoted to her daughters, step daughters, and especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a skilled seamstress and an excellent cook, providing a welcoming home which was the center of many holiday meals for family, friends and neighbors. No one could resist her famous pierogis. She is survived by her beloved daughter Judith Evans Barnatt and husband William Barnatt of Harwichport MA and beloved daughter Kathleen Dziedzic Harris and her husband Glenn Harris of Lisbon NY, as well as cherished grandson Jonathan Evans and his wife Alison of Orleans MA. She is also survived by treasured stepdaughters Joanne (Forman) Connelly of Sunderland MA and Barbara (Forman) Lackey and her husband Lauren of Thousand Oaks CA. Much loved grandchildren include; Michael Connelly and wife Laurie of Greenfield MA, Jim Connelly and wife Mary Jane of Northfield MA, Chris Connelly of Sunderland MA, Debbie (Lackey) Guerra and her husband Ed of Ojai CA and Mark Lackey and his children of Wood Ranch CA. Also surviving is her dear cousin Mary (Lacus) Page of Chicopee, MA and her children. Helen also leaves many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren that were dear to her. The family greatly appreciates the love and support over the last 5 years from the staff of Harbor Point in Centerville MA and Maplewood at Brewster as well as the compassionate care of Hospice Services of Massachusetts. Visiting hours will be held on Monday July 17, 2017 from 4pm-7pm at Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home, 61 Grape St. Chicopee, MA. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Basilica Front St.Chicopee MA Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery 800 Montgomery St. Chicopee MA. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Shriner’s Hospital, Springfield MA would be appreciated.
