James T. “Jim” Farley of Springfield passed into eternal life on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. He was the son of James F. and Mildred (Forrester) Farley. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Eleanor (Serafino) Farley; a cherished daughter, Susan (Farley) Stedman; five siblings, Beartrice Adams, Maxine Jones, Vianna Steen, Judy Frock and one brother, Edward. Jim was born in Sullivan County, Missouri, near the town of Milan. He served his country proudly in the U S Army Airborne. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he returned to civilian life and married the love of his life, Eleanor Seratino. Jim later joined the Springfield Fire Department and served the city for thirty years, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of the Retired Police and Firefighters Association of Springfield and the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts. Jim was a member of the First Central Bible Church in Chicopee, where he served on the board of trustees for several years and was an usher. He also enjoyed the Saturday morning men’s group at the church studying God’s word. Jim was a avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the outdoors. Jim is survived by one son, James, Jr. and his wife, Kelly and five grandchildren, Amy Stedman, Katie Stedman, Daniel Farley, Waylon Farley and Harper Farley. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 2 to 4 pm at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
