Joan M. (Daley) Kulig, 85, of Chicopee, died on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Mount St. Vincent Nursing Center in Holyoke.  She worked at Springfield Insurance Co. and at the Veteran’s Administration Office in Chicopee.  Joan was a longtime teacher’s aide at St. Patrick’s School and worked in the Religious Education Office for the Diocese of Springfield. She was then the secretary to Bishop Joseph McGuire and to Bishop John Marshall before her retirement. Joan was born on December 11, 1929 in Lowell to John and Elizabeth (Farrell) Daley. She was a Chicopee resident since 1940. Joan was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and communicant of St. Anne’s Church.  Joan was an altar server at St. Patrick’s Church, a member of the Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella.

Joan is survived by her husband, Stephen S. Kulig; two sons, James S. Kulig of Largo, FL and William A. Kulig and his wife, Melissa of Pinellas Park, FL ; two daughters, Elizabeth DeForest and her husband, Kevin of Chicopee and Patricia M. Meade and her husband, Donn, also of Chicopee; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Kulig of Dracut; nine grandchildren, Daniel Meade, Stephanie Mascia, Kathryn Vooris, Michael Kulig, Martin Kulig, James Kulig, David Kulig, Niki Kulig and Samantha DeForest and two great grandchildren, Molly and Addison.  Joan leaves many special nieces, nephews and “adopted” children and grandchildren and close family friends.  Joan is predeceased by her son, David M. Kulig, who died in 1995 and her brother, John Daley.  The family would like to thank the Baystate Medical Center, Wesson Building 3rd Floor Staff and the staff at Mt. St. Vincent Nursing Center for their kind and compassionate care.

Joan’s funeral will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Homes on 69 East St. Chicopee Falls at 8:00 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church 366 Broadway in Chicopee Falls at 9 am. Her burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Fuller Rd. in Chicopee Falls. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 and Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
