CHICOPEE    John C. Spinks passed away peacefully on August 17th 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on September 28, 1945, to the late Charles W. and Florence (McBride) Spinks. He was a 1964 graduate of Chicopee High School. After graduating, John worked various part time jobs including full time at Pratt & Whitney until 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for four years. After his service, he returned to Pratt & Whitney, working in the Power Cells Division for 48 years.

John enjoyed woodturning and woodcarving, often surprising his family with a special carving each Christmas. He was a devoted husband, dad, and papa who cherished spending time with his family. He was also a true lover of animals and adored all of his pets.

John leaves behind his devoted wife, Annie (Brown Schreffler) Spinks, with 47 years of special memories together. He also leaves behind his loving family, including daughter Wanda (Spinks) Rupelt (partner John LaBarre); Wanda’s children; Marcus Rupelt, Samantha Gauthier and her children Ciara, Ava, and Leyanna; and Amanda Colburn (husband Evan) and their daughter Sophia. He is also survived by daughter Darlene (Schreffler) Arel (partner Tom Lafountain); Darlene’s daughter Erica Lawless (husband Nick) and their sons Rory, Landon and Wyatt; and son William Schreffler (wife Cindy) and their sons Nathan and Jacob. John also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Spinks, along with many good friends and cherished memories.

Calling hours will be held on Sat, 8/22/2026 at Cierpial Memorial Funeral Homes, 61 Grape St, Chicopee from 2–4 PM with a short service at 3:30. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Lupa Zoo, Ludlow, Ma. where John’s beloved birds, Buddy and Bandit, reside.
