Maureen E. (Kearney) Hunt, 87, a life-long resident of Chicopee, passed away Thursday the 3rd of August at the Wingate Rehabilitation Center in Andover. Born in 1930 in Chicopee to Edward Kearney and Viola (Camerlin) Kearney, she graduated from Chicopee High School in 1947, after which she went to work for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. She met her future husband, Harry Robert “Bob” Hunt at a Mountain Park dance. They were married in January of 1953. After Bob’s death in 1980, she went to work for the Vocations Office for the Diocese of Springfield until her retirement. Maureen was known for her sharp mind and wry smile, right up until her final days. She loved playing word or trivia games with her family. Password was a particular favorite of hers as she could put her amazing vocabulary to good use. She loved solving her daily crossword puzzle and also enjoyed the occasional trip to Foxwoods or bingo. She was very active with her high school class, the class of ‘47. Until her illness prevented it, she attended their monthly luncheon get togethers. But most of all she was about family. She adored her two sons, their wives, and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And they loved her dearly as well. She will be sorely missed, especially around the holidays when the whole family gathers and plays games late into the night. It is not often we have the opportunity to know extraordinary people in our lives, but anyone who had the good fortune of knowing Maureen received just such a blessing. She is survived by her son, Barry and his wife Eileen of Andover MA, her son, Thomas and his wife Dianne of Pelham NH, her 7 grandchildren, Jessica Lawrence of Bedford NH, Steven Hunt of Derry NH, Amanda Hunt of Durham NC, Christopher Hunt of Andover MA, Alexander Hunt of Pelham NH, Jeffrey Hunt of Danvers MA and Jennifer Hunt of Pelham NH. She also leaves her two great grandchildren, Jabin and Eliora, a number of nieces and nephews, several dear friends and her beloved cousin Lillian “Dolly” Darcy. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Harry, and her brother Francis. Maureen’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St., in Chicopee Falls at 10 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, 516 Broadway at 11 am. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.
