Serge Raymond Blanchette, 81, of Chicopee, MA, passed peacefully on May 16, 2024 at BayState Medical Center with his wife and children by his side. Serge was born December 15, 1942 in Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec, Canada. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul Emile and Rita Marie Blanchette, sister, Jeanette Blanchette, his brother and wife, Jean Paul and Jeannine Blanchette, brother, Denis P. Blanchette, daughter, Sheila Gulan, nephew, Denis Blanchette Jr, and grand niece, Sandra Blanchette.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Mary T. Blanchette, his brother, Roger Blanchette, his wife, Debra Blanchette, his beloved children, daughter Connie Blanchette-Laverty, her husband, Jack Laverty,  son Serge Blanchette Jr., his wife Tonya Troutman, daughter, Barbara Gulan, son Patrick Gulan, his wife Jennifer Gulan, sons Timothy Gulan, John Gulan, his grandchildren, Lindsey Blanchette, Padraig Bond, Kai Gulan, Griffin Gulan and Charlotte Gulan. He is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews along with an aunt and many cousins in Canada.

Serge attended Catholic school in East Angus, P.Q. He graduated first in his class at Saint Louis of France in East Angus, P.Q. After a year in prep school, he attended the Sherbrooke Technical School and became a talented woodworking apprentice. At the age of 23, in 1965, he immigrated to the United States with his family.  Within 6 months, Serge received his draft card and served 2 years in the US Army, during the Vietnam War, for which he was honorably discharged for his service.  In later years, he became a United States citizen.

His employment included Brand Rex Wire & Cable, in Willimantic, CT for over 25 years, during which he helped in the development of several products.  Later, he worked for Rockbestos Wire & Cable in East Granby, CT for 18 years before retiring to Chicopee, MA with his wife. Serge was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus BM, where he helped mend religious items for the church, with many bazaar functions and served as an usher for various church functions. Serge was also a dedicated member of the Moose Lodge for 28 years and was a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus member for more than 40 years.

Serge was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens hockey fan and enjoyed playing hockey in his youth. He enjoyed swimming, jogging, traveling internationally, DIY projects, renovating his homes, chocolate, socializing with his family and friends or hanging out with his buddies at the local senior center and breakfast places.

Family and friends are invited to gather Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee 9:30 to 10:30am. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, 566 Front St. in Chicopee at 11:00 am.
