Sophie L. (Czabaj) Czermak, 103, of Chicopee, died on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke. She was born on May 5, 1917 in Gilbertville and was the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Aniela (Aksamit) Czabaj. Sophie grew up in Chicopee Falls over her family’s store, Czabaj’s Market. She and her husband, Chester, raised their family in Chicopee where Sophie enjoyed gardening and bird watching and taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about the flowers that attracted birds to visit the garden. Sophie lived a long and happy life surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed traveling to beaches in New England and Florida.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth C. Czermak and his long-term partner Nancy Leonard of Monroe, NH; her daughter, Sandra I. Bazinet and her husband Leo of Orlando, FL; her sister, Irene Bielecki and her sister-in-law Shirley Czabaj both of Chicopee and three grandchildren, Heather Gentile and husband Derick, Kimberly Balm and husband Simon, and Kenneth Czermak JR, along with 3 great grandchildren (Valentina Sophia, Darin Anthony, and Edward Sydney) and many nieces and nephews. Sophie is predeceased by her husband Chester, her brother, Joseph S. Czabaj, Jr. and her sister Wanda Lareau. Private services will be held for immediate family members.

She will be laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Chester.
