Walter Frank Olbrys Jr., 82 of Newark, DE and formerly of Chicopee, passed away at his residence, on September 23rd, 2021. Born on July 9, 1939 in Chicopee, to the late Walter and Anna (Grzywocz) Olbrys. Raised in Chicopee, Walter graduated Chicopee High School in 1956 and served his country honorably in the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, he made a lifelong career on the New York Central System/ CSX Railroads, retiring as a supervisor after 40 plus years of service. Walter then retired to Delaware where he has lived for the past several years. Walter enjoyed retirement as an avid beer can/label collector. Many happy holiday dinners were enjoyed by family and friends, especially Christmas dinner at Wiggin’s Tavern. He also enjoyed his morning walks with the “Mall Walkers” at the Christiana Mall in Newark. Walter is preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Will F. Olbrys II and is survived by his brother William F. Olbrys and wife Patricia of Chicopee and his cousin Agnes Olbrys also of Chicopee. Family and friends may gather at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus on Thursday, October 28 at 9:30 am to greet the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am in the basilica. Burial to follow in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Stanislaus School, 534 Front St., Chicopee, MA 01013 or the charity of one’s choice.
