Walter T. Opon, 78, of Chicopee, died on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at CareOne at Redstone in East Longmeadow. He was an auto mechanic for various dealerships in the area and the City of Springfield. Walter was born on May 4, 1940 in Chicopee and was the son of the late Walter and Caroline (Rurak) Opon. Walter was a member of the Oregon Sportsmen’s Club and an avid fisherman. He is survived by two daughters, Julie Moss and her husband, Gregory of Belchertown and Michelle Opon of Hampden; two sisters, Gladys Brut of Ludlow and Jean McCarthy of Satellite Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Chloe Moss and Joseph Arslanian and his companion, Anne Fitzgerald of Chicopee. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls at 12 Noon. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
