CHICOPEE    William L. Cashin, 88, of Chicopee, passed away on August 14, 2026 in Westerly, RI.  He was born on February 10, 1938 in Chicopee and was the son of William L. Cashin, Sr. and Dorothy (Bergeron) Cashin.  Bill worked at the Springfield Armory and was a patrolman for the City of Chicopee Police Department for thirty-four years.  He was known as “The Legend” and will be missed by everyone who knew him.  Bill was hilarious and had a great personality.  He enjoyed hiking, boating, waterskiing, camping, canoeing, traveling and summers at his beach house on Matunuck. Bill was a hunter, fisherman, charter boat captain, scuba diver and builder. He loved his family the most though, enjoyed spending time together and always attended everyone’s games and meets.  Bill was a member of the Charlestown RI Senior Center, the Chicopee Senior Center, and the Adventurer’s Club.

Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia (Wisk) Cashin; a son, William Cashin III and his wife, Elaine of Vermont; two daughters, Debora Bys and her husband, Robert of Springfield and Dawn Riley and her husband, Darren of Ludlow and a sister Judith Lerma of TX, 10 grandchildren: Jackie, Julie, Jenny, Callie, Billie, Sarah, Matt, Casey, Lindsay and Cody; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.  Bill is predeceased by his grandson, Norman Woolard, brother, Robert Cashin, and nephew, Brian Tyburski.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home at a later date
