Walter C. Kos, Sr. 93, of Chicopee, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was a retired supervisor at Uni-Royal. Walter was born on August 28, 1921 in Chicopee and was a life-long resident. He was the son of the late John and Katarzyna (Makuch) Kos. Walter was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr. He was a First Sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. Walter received the Silver and Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Italian/American Veterans, past commander of the DAV and a former member of the St. Michael’s Society. He is predeceased by his wife, Josephine M. (Laskowski) Kos, who died in 1996; six brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Charles, Mitzie, Stanley and Edward and two sisters, Anna Rosch and Josephine Tyminski and his son-in-law, Bruce Johnson. Walter is survived by a son, Walter C. Kos, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia of Feeding Hills; two daughters, Barbara Johnson of Springfield and Kathleen Rosenholm and her husband, Eric of West Springfield; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kos of Chicopee, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A funeral home service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee Falls at 10:00 am. His burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday from 4 to 7 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:00 am.
