Frederick Borowiec, 94, of Chicopee, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.   He was the son of the late Nellie (Burowicz) Szetela. Fred was a comunicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus and the Holy Name Society. He was a retired Toll Collector for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. Fred was a US Marine Corp veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Am Vets Post 12, American Legion, Post 452, Disabled American Veterans 268 of Springfield and the Chosin Few of the New England Chapter.  Fred also was a member of the Marine Corp Heritage Foundation and a former Member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 2000.He was also a lifetime member of the YMCA of Springfield and the Valley Athletic Club of the Springfield YMCA. Fred is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alexandra T. “Olga” (Wrobel) Borowiec; two daughters, Kathleen Borowiec-Pena and her husband (Pano) of California and Barbara Mol and her husband, Edward of Ludlow; three grandchildren Matthew Mol and his wife, Jennifer, Nicholas Mol and his wife, Sarah, and Katibeth Stein and her husband, Rob; and six cherished great grandchildren, Emily, William, Jack, Evelyn, James and Lucy. He is predeceased by a brother, Frank Szetela, Jr. and two sisters, Marion DeWolf and Jean Demers.A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 5^th  at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, 566 Front St. in Chicopee at 11 AM. Burial will be a the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam at 1 PM.  There are no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Based Primary Care, 25 Bond St., Springfield, MA 01104  or the charity of one’s choice.
