Gerald C. Cove, 83, of Chicopee, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Life Care Center of Wilbraham.  Gerry was born on July 18, 1940 in Boston, MA and was the son of the late Charles T. and Mary F. (Lydon) Cove.  He came to Chicopee as a baby.  Gerry was a graduate of Westfield State University and the University of Connecticut.  He taught school in Chicopee for two years and for the Enfield Public Schools for thirty-four years. Gerry loved the City of Chicopee and served on both the Chicopee Board of Alderman and Chicopee School Committee.  Gerry was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849 and a member of the Tiger’s Athletic Club and was involved in numerous other civic organizations. He is survived by his son, Christopher A. Cove and his wife, Joy of Longmeadow and his daughter, Caryn Malloy and her husband, Mark of Arlington and four grandchildren Ryan, John Charles, Harry and Gerald and his brother-in-law, William “Bill” Fontaine and his wife Elizabeth, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.  Gerry is predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. (Fontaine) Cove, who died on December 28, 2022 and by his two brothers, Thomas A. Cove and Charles E. Cove.  Calling hours are on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee.  Family and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, August 25^th at St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St. in Chicopee at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery on Fuller Rd. in Chicopee. Gerry was a voracious reader, in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made in name of Gerald Cove to the Chicopee Public Library, 449 Front St. Chicopee, MA 01013.
