Joseph John Banas, 92, a lifelong resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph Francis and Julia Martha (Wytaniec) Banas.  Joe started the printing department at Spaulding’s Chicopee plant right out of high school, starting his life-long printing career. Eventually he became self-employed as the owner, along with his wife Murielle, of Latka Printing & Marketing in Westfield. Joe was a true craftsman in his field. A wonderful teacher to all who worked with him. Joe was a determined courageous man who did not hesitate to offer a helping hand. May his kind influence live on through all the lives he has touched over the years.  As a young man, Joe pitched for the Tigers Baseball Team. He enjoyed golf, bowling, table tennis, ice skating and coached youth baseball. He enjoyed attending many events, ballroom dancing with his wife, playing chess with family and friends and loved a good card game.  He leaves his beloved wife of 63 years Murielle (Falardeau) Banas. They were married October 22, 1960, in Donnacona, Quebec, Canada. He is also survived by his two loving children, Paul Banas of Chicopee and Patricia Banas (Daniel Bailey) of Indian Orchard; his four cherished grandchildren, Brad LaBonte-Banas, Allison Banas, Amelia Bailey and Danielle Bailey; his many living and deceased French- Canadian In-Laws.  Predeceased by his brother Raymond Banas. His family would like to recognize Baystate Coumadin Clinic, the dedication of the Baystate Home Health – East Team, and the excellent care he received at Baystate Wing Hospital, Palmer and the compassion and dignity offered by Baystate Health Hospice Care. His funeral services will be private. Memorial Donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to Springfield Rescue Mission, PO Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102-9045 and Girls Inc of the Valley, PO Box 6812, Holyoke, MA 01041
