Thomas S. Chizmar, 87, of Chicopee, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Thomas was born on May 7, 1936, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to the late Stephen and Ellen (Murphy) Chizmar. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Chutorich (Ron) and his brother, Bernard Chizmar (Lolly).  Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-five years, Veronica E. (Ryczkowski) Chizmar; beloved daughters, Paula J. Chizmar of Chicopee, and Patricia M. Janke and husband, Michael of Westfield; cherished grandson, Christopher A. Janke and wife, Sabrina of Westfield, MA; sister, Janice Dunn and husband, Paul of Philadelphia, PA, and his beloved dog Piper.  Besides his family, Thomas was most proud of his 27-year military career in the U.S. Air Force, which included service in Viet Nam, retiring in 1981 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received numerous commendations during his career. Thomas loved to recall stories of his military service and fondly remembered all the people he met along the way. After retirement, Thomas stayed busy working at several local businesses. Thomas enjoyed his later years, keeping an eye on the neighborhood from his rocking chair on the front porch. He sincerely wished for peace and happiness to those he had lost touch with.  Calling hours are on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St. in Chicopee from 4 to 7 pm.  Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam on Friday, October 20th at 2 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,TN 38105-1905.
